May to September is the most comfortable time to visit the Southern Lakes with the longest days and warmest temperatures, averaging 14-21°C. July is usually the warmest month. Winters are long from late October to early April with shorter days, temperatures ranging from zero to -20°C, and snowfall heaviest November to February. Spring (April-June) ranges from cold to mild, while autumn (September-October) can be wetter with temperatures falling from 15°C to zero. September to April is the best time to see the Northern Lights with the clearest skies and longer nights.
