Chesapeake Bay FAQs

Find out all you need to know about visiting Chesapeake Bay.

When is the best time to visit Chesapeake Bay?

Chesapeake Bay beckons travellers year-round, but the best time to visit is in the spring or autumn when the weather is pleasantly mild for making the most of the bay’s outdoor pursuits, and the summer crowds have thinned. Stick to the months of April to early June and end August to October for the best weather. Daytime highs will range from 18°C to 23°C.

Summer is a great time to visit Chesapeake Bay if you are a water sports enthusiast as the conditions will be perfect for being out on the water. Daytime highs between end June and August can reach up to 30°C.

Winter, which runs from November until early March in the bay, is best for birdwatching when migrating geese, ducks and swans arrive from the north. Temperatures will be cool with highs around 10°C, lows around freezing, and cold, frosty waters.
