Thunderbird Lodge
A Navajo-owned and operated lodge in Canyon de Chelly’s sacred land.
Situated at the mouth of Canyon de Chelly and operated an enterprise of the Navajo Nation, Thunderbird Lodge is the only accommodation inside the national monument. Built on the site of a trading post from 1896, its red-adobe construction is an homage to the style of the ancient pueblos. The lodge offers stylish, colorful rooms with full bathrooms, rustic furniture and Navajo paintings on the walls.
The lodge is more than just a place to stay; it’s a gateway to explore the rich culture and history of the Navajo people. Its cafeteria-style restaurant, located in the original trading post building, serves regional specialties, including mutton stew and fry bread. The lodge also offers guided tours of the canyon, where you can see the ancient cave dwellings, petroglyphs, and natural wonders.
