Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Miami, transfer to Miami Beach
On arrival in Miami, you’ll be taken by private transfer to your hotel in Miami Beach.
Miami Beach is one of the USA’s most famous resorts with a nine-mile promenade, Art Deco buildings, pulsating nightlife and celebrity residents.
Explore Miami Beach’s cultural highlights, including the former Versace mansion Casa Casuarina, the Holocaust Memorial, and the Art Deco district centred around Ocean Drive before checking out the restaurants and nightlife.
Day 2 Miami Beach food and walking tour
Spend another day exploring Miami Beach. Included in your trip is The South Beach Food & Art Deco Tour, a culinary tour to learn about the history, architecture and social movements of Miami. Sample mouthwatering dishes in several restaurants while an expert guide takes you through the Art Deco district.
To further explore the city’s Latin heritage, head across the bridge to the city and Calle Ocho in Little Havana for Cuban art, shopping and delicious food and drink.
Another cultural highlight of Miami is the Wynwood district, famous for dozens of murals at Wynwood Walls and the Museum of Graffiti.
Day 3 Downtown Miami and sunset cruise
Spend another day exploring Miami. In the Downtown district, head to the shops and restaurants of Bayside Marketplace, then enjoy a walk through Bayfront Park.
Another city highlight is the Coconut Grove district south of Downtown. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is a stunning century-old Renaissance-style property in 10 acres of landscaped gardens overlooking Biscayne Bay.
We recommend a sunset cruise around the bay, passing Stiltsville, Cape Florida Lighthouse and Key Biscayne before enjoying a beautiful sunset on Biscayne Bay or South Beach.
Day 4 Drive to Florida Keys and Marathon
This morning, pick up your hire car in Miami Beach and drive south to Florida Keys, an amazing archipelago of coral islands between the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. The Overseas Highway is one of America’s greatest drives, spanning 113 miles across 42 bridges through the Keys.
It’s worth stopping at Key Largo, where the Florida Keys begin. This is one of the world’s best diving destinations with highlights including the wreck of the USS Spiegel Grove and diverse marine life including dolphins, manatees and turtles. Snorkelling and kayaking are recommended in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
Continue an hour further south from Key Largo to your accommodation at Tranquility Bay Beachfront Resort near Marathon. Relax on the private white-sand beach, rent a kayak to explore the stunning coastline and go snorkelling in the tropical waters before enjoying freshly caught seafood for dinner in the resort of Marathon.
Day 5 Marathon to idyllic Key West
This morning, you drive across the incredible Seven Mile Bridge at Knight’s Key on the way to the island city of Key West at the far south-west tip of the Keys.
Key West is famous for its spectacular sunsets, gingerbread mansions, colourful conch houses, Bohemian community and often raucous nightlife. It is the southernmost point in the USA so a photograph of the iconic buoy is a must.
Enjoy the nightly Sunset Celebration in Mallory Square then check out the bars and clubs along Duval Street. Key West is famous for its seafood, Caribbean specialities and trying the iconic Key Lime Pie is obligatory.
Day 6 Key West heritage and sunset cruise
Explore the stunning surroundings of Key West today. Visit author Ernest Hemingway’s former home, now a museum, and check out some of Hemingway’s old haunts in the evening, including his favourite bar Sloppy Joe’s.
Included in your tour is a trip to see the famous Key West sunset on a 1.5-hour catamaran cruise, accompanied by a glass of champagne.
Day 7 Snorkelling and kayaking in Key West
Spend your last day in Key West taking some unforgettable excursions. We recommend snorkelling or kayaking around this stunning region, exploring mangrove islands, shallow sandbars and clear, calm turquoise waters.
Another recommended excursion is the half-day Key West Seaport Food Tour, guiding you through Key West’s maritime history with tastings of delicious seafood, cuban sandwiches and key lime pie.
Day 8 Return to Miami, tour ends
Drive back to Miami, perhaps making time for a stop along the way in the Keys. Drop your hire car at Miami Airport and take your flight home.
