When is the best time to visit East Coast USA?

The best time to visit the East Coast is May to October when the weather is warmest and sunniest. However, many of the major cities on the East Coast are year-round destinations with a variety of attractions for all seasons and busy programmes of events. Summer (June-August) has average temperatures of 20-28°C, while autumn (September-October) is the best time to explore the countryside for the Fall colours. Spring (March-May) ranges from cold to mild with temperatures 4-20°C and is a great time to see the waterfalls. Winter (November-March) has temperatures from 10°C down to -10°C with snow most common December-February, and heavier snow inland in mountainous regions such as the Catskills and Adirondacks.

The major cities have busy programmes of events year-round. New York is famous for celebrations including Chinese New Year in January/February, St Patrick’s Day parade in March, NYC Pride in June, Columbus Day in October and New Year’s Eve in Times Square. The state capital Albany is famous for its May Tulip Festival and huge Pride Parade in June. There is a wide range of harvest food and drink festivals throughout the region in September/October. Niagara Falls are at their most spectacular at night from November to February during the Winter Festival of Lights. Philadelphia has a huge flower show and beer festival in March, one of the country’s biggest independence celebrations in late June/early July, and a large Chinese American festival in summer. Gettysburg stages a huge re-enactment of the pivotal battle in early July.
