Prince Edward Island

Canada’s smallest province has beautiful beaches, world-famous oysters, and breathtaking coastal scenery overlooked by towering lighthouses.

View Holidays

Prince Edward Island certainly has a dramatic entry point – 13km across the Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick, and this is just one of the incredible views on this captivating island.

The island’s capital Charlottetown is known as the birthplace of Canada after the Confederation was negotiated here in 1864. Take a cruise around the harbour then explore the colonial buildings and boutiques of pedestrianised Victoria Row before feasting on seafood. The island supplies North America with much of its fresh mussels and oysters so a gastronomic tour is highly recommended.

Charlottetown’s historical highlights include Saint Dunstan’s Basilica, Beaconsfield Historic House, Great George Street and Province House where the nation was born. Charlottetown also has five theatres so don’t miss the production of Anne & Gilbert the Musical. Literary buffs can also enjoy a visit to Anne of Green Gables Heritage Place in the nearby town of Cavendish, where author Lucy Maud Montgomery hailed from.

Prince Edward Island National Park along the north shore of the island has fantastic white and red sand beaches. The 435-kilometre Confederation Trail, which runs the length of the island, is great for cycling and hiking, and there are more than 50 lighthouses on the island’s shoreline, including the active West Point Lighthouse.
