Baton Rouge Walking Tour

Named by early French explorers as the “Red Stick City”, Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana, and a meeting place for Cajun and Creole culture. It is also rich in diverse architectural styles and a history that goes back to the very foundations of the state of Louisiana. On this 2-hour private walking tour, your guide will take you around the city’s highlights to leave you with a better idea of Baton Rouge’s importance in the Deep South.

The tour will start at the Art Deco-style Louisiana State Capitol building – the tallest capitol building in the USA – where your guide will point out the numerous symbolic images that permeate this unique structure, before taking you up the elevators to the observation deck for breathtaking views of Baton Rouge and the surrounding area. Your tour will then continue to the Capitol Park Museum (closed every Sunday and Monday) which delves into Louisiana’s rich culture and history. The tour continues with a stroll past the Louisiana Old State Capitol building, known as “the castle on the hill” with its distinctive Gothic Revival architecture, before ending at the bluff with views overlooking the mighty Mississippi River.
