From the cowboy capital of the world to Louisiana’s Big Easy, a journey across these two neighbouring states offers an impressive introduction to the history and culture of two of the American South’s most iconic destinations. You will start your stay in Fort Worth, stopping in an enticing selection of cities along the way, ending with an unforgettable Texan adventure on a luxury ranch.
Begin your trip visiting Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards – you’ll witness the world’s last twice-daily longhorn cattle drive – before heading over for a night in the historic town of Natchitoches in Louisiana. You’ll then delve into the heart of the state’s famed Plantation Country, visiting some of Louisiana’s largest former plantations, like Oak Alley and Laura, and staying overnight at the elegant Houmas House.
You’ll then get to experience the South’s incredible music scene, stopping in the birthplace of Jazz, New Orleans, and the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’, Austin, Texas. While you’re in Louisiana, trips to the Tabasco Factory and a cooking class in either Cajun or Creole cuisine will give you a taste of Louisiana’s local heritage, and private tours of Baton Rouge and New Orleans will provide insight into the incredible architecture and history of these two cities.
Next, you’ll take a trip through Louisiana’s famed bayous and discover the nature and wildlife that is indigenous to the Gulf Coast with stays in Lafayette and Lake Charles. Afterwards, cross back into Texas for a brief visit to Houston’s NASA/Johnson Space Centre before spending two nights by San Antonio’s gorgeous River Walk – exploring the city that’s home to The Alamo. Get a glimpse of Dallas’ gleaming skyscrapers before spending the last days of your trip at the beautiful Wildcatter Ranch just north of the city. Rest and relaxation await at this secluded working ranch and resort, where you’ll also get to experience rural Texan life firsthand before you return home.

Our expert's opinion
“Texas and Louisiana are two of the USA’s most well-known states and a trip to either guarantees a good time. I love how this journey has a complete mix of iconic cowboy culture, delicious food, music and history all in one. One minute you are listening to some of the best Jazz in the world, sipping on the most incredible cocktails and eating the tastiest Cajun food, then the next visiting the most beautiful colonial homes and taking in the laid back Louisiana lifestyle. You then top the whole trip off with a stay in one of America's great ranches after you have taken in the true Texas atmosphere in one of the state's most iconic cities, Dallas.”
