When is the best time to visit Big Bend National Park?

The best time to go to Big Bend National Park is in the autumn or spring when temperatures are pleasantly warm during the day and refreshingly cool at night – perfect for outdoor exploring. March is one of the busiest months because of the great weather conditions and the influx of spring break visitors, but you’ll find that the crowds are small compared to other locations like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Daytime highs during the spring and autumn months of March to May and October to November range from 18°C to 28°C.

Summer in Big Bend National Park is hot and humid with daytime highs regularly reaching 30°C. Visitors are discouraged from visiting between June and August as the intense heat makes a trek through the park physically challenging. Come winter, Big Bend cools with highs only reaching 15°C and near freezing conditions at night between December and February. Those who prefer cooler weather would enjoy the winter season in the park.
