Opened in 1926 as the first public corridor across the continent, Route 66 is now all about nostalgia and classic Americana. Spanning 2,448 miles, 8 states and 3 time zones, Route 66 – America’s Mother Road, as it is affectionately called – takes you from the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois across the United States to the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, California.
From time-capsule towns and neon signs to vast landscapes and natural wonders – you’ll get all of the Mother Road’s highlights on this 2-week trip traversing the original, historic drive.
Start in Chicago and end in Santa Monica, stopping in multiple towns and locations along the way, experiencing the legendary drive that millions have made in search of fun, freedom and the wide, open road.
Outline itinerary
Day 1Arrive in Chicago and take a private transfer to your hotel.
Day 2Collect rental car and start your Route 66 road trip to the classic Midwest capital of St. Louis in Missouri.
Day 3Continue to the birthplace of the “Mother Road”, Springfield, Missouri.
Day 4Head to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Day 5Leave early for a day in Oklahoma City.
Day 6Make your way to Texas where you’ll find one of the most iconic stops on Route 66.
Day 7Continue to New Mexico’s time-warped town of Tucumcari.
Day 8Head over to Albuquerque for some Route 66 nostalgia.
Day 9Continue to Gallup, the gateway of the Native American experience on Route 66.
Day 10Drive to the charming city of Flagstaff, stopping at the only national park on Route 66 along the way.
Day 11Enjoy Flagstaff’s proximity to the Southwest’s natural wonders.
Day 12Head to Arizona’s last stop on Route 66, Kingman.
Day 13Cross over into California with your next stop, Barstow.
Day 14Drive to the end of Route 66.
Day 15Return rental car and fly home from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
