Moose Jaw
This former mobster town is an entertaining step back in time to the days of Prohibition with some interesting historical attractions.
On the edge of the Canadian badlands, Moose Jaw used to have an infamously bad reputation when the mob ran rum through the town to Chicago during the Prohibition era.
The sculpture of Mac the Moose, claimed to be the world’s tallest moose at 10 metres high, welcomes visitors to this Wild West-style town. The most fun way to relive 20th century history is on the theatrical underground tour in the Tunnels of Moose Jaw.
A highlight of the downtown area is The Murals of Moose Jaw, more than 40 works of art on buildings depicting the local history, while Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery has a small First Nations exhibition and artworks.
About 20 minutes’ drive north of town, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park has a herd of bison and offers good hiking and cycling among its rolling hills.
