When is the best time to visit Grasslands National Park?

May to September is the best time to visit Grasslands National Park with the most sunshine and warmest temperatures. There’s less rainfall here than elsewhere in the province but it can often be windy. Summer (June-August) is the best time with temperatures ranging 18-25°C but can reach as high as 30°C with occasional thunderstorms. Spring (April-June) ranges from cool to mild with a host of wildflowers in bloom, while temperatures fall in autumn (September-October) from an average of 16°C down towards zero. This is a particularly attractive time to visit for the Fall colours. Winter (November-March) can be cold but less severely cold and with less snow than further north.

Grasslands National Park and most of Saskatchewan observes Central Standard Time (GMT – 6) year-round with no Daylight Saving Time.

What places combine well with Grasslands National Park?

Grasslands National Park is in the far south-west of Saskatchewan, just under three hours’ drive from Moose Jaw and 3.5 hours from Regina. The park can also be easily reached from Montana in the US, 30km to the south. The Canadian Badlands and Medicine Hat are about four hours’ drive west.
