Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in one of the most charming towns in the Rockies: Jackson Hole
Welcome to Jackson Hole! Considered the gateway to the Grand Teton Mountain Range, Jackson Hole is a mountain resort town famed for its year-round outdoor recreation, beautiful ranches and fine dining.
Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel where you will spend the first three nights. Get settled in before enjoying a dinner and orientation with your guide.
Day 2 Wildlife spotting and stargazing in Grand Teton National Park
Today, you’ll depart before sunrise for a wildlife viewing in Grand Teton National Park, where you’ll get to see elk, bison, pronghorn, wolves, eagles, black bears, grizzly bears and more. Widely considered America’s equivalent to the European alps, the Tetons boast 310,000 acres of lush valley floors, mountain meadows, alpine lakes, diverse wildlife and jagged peaks offering something for both nature and wildlife lovers. You’ll spend the early morning out with your expert naturalist guide – an excellent wildlife spotter, who will treat you to the highlights and off the beaten path gems of the park.
Come late morning, you’ll enjoy a private tour of the National Museum of Wildlife Art. The Museum’s permanent collection boasts over 5,000 catalogued items includes paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by over 100 distinguished artists ranging from early American Tribes through to contemporary masters. Lunch will be at the museum’s restaurant overlooking the National Elk Refuge before returning to your hotel to spend the afternoon at your leisure in Jackson Hole.
In the evening, dine in one of the many excellent local eateries before heading out for a night of stargazing in Grand Teton National Park. You will be accompanied by a local astronomer guide and a high powered telescope. With low levels of light pollution and high elevations, there will be plenty to see in the night skies.
Day 3 Scenic float on Snake River, admiring the Tetons and the local wildlife
Spend this morning enjoying a scenic float on the famed Snake River, taking in spectacular views of the Tetons along the way. Look out for eagles and moose as your expert raft guide rows you leisurely down the river.
*Note: This is a shared, non-private float. You can optionally upgrade to enjoy a private scenic float on a vintage wooden drift boat down the Snake River followed by breakfast served at a secluded riverside camp. Please speak to one of our travel experts to have this arranged.
Day 4 Travel to Yellowstone National Park and spend the day exploring
Today you will be driven around 2 hours north to Yellowstone National Park – seeing even more beautiful views of the Tetons on your way. One of America’s most incredible natural wonders, Yellowstone offers visitors an opportunity to experience what the North American continent was like before recorded history across its 2.2 million acres of unspoiled wilderness.
You’ll start by travelling into the interior of Yellowstone to experience the iconic geothermal wonders, such as the world-famous Old Faithful geyser, that led to the conservation of this majestic landscape. Led by your expert naturalist guide, you’ll get out and explore the geyser basins on foot, and then enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch before continuing to the stately and historic Lake Yellowstone Hotel.
Day 5 Discover Yellowstone’s prime wildlife habitat: Hayden Valley
This morning you’ll head out early for wildlife viewing in Hayden Valley. One of Yellowstone’s prime wildlife habitats, the valley is home to vast herds of bison, elk, wolf packs, bears and more. Afterwards, you’ll visit the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River and enjoy an easy hike to an overlook to see its impressive waterfalls.
Then continue over Dunraven Pass, an unforgettable high mountain pass at an elevation of 8,878 feet above sea level before traveling onwards to Sage Lodge, located in the scenic Paradise Valley of Montana, and the place where you’ll be spending the next three nights.
Day 6 Explore Yellowstone National Park, your way
There are so many ways to explore the sublime natural wonder that is Yellowstone, and today the options abound for additional exploration. After breakfast, head into Yellowstone for a guided hike – there are over 90 trails – or choose from one of the many adventures available in the Paradise Valley. Set off into the mountains on horseback and enjoy the afternoon at leisure or head for an optional soak in the nearby naturally-fed hot spring pools.
Day 7 Wildlife viewing in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley
Wake up early to depart before sunrise for a guided wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park. Often referred to as the Serengeti of North America, the Lamar Valley’s landscape offers excellent opportunities for viewing the vast herds of bison and resident wolf packs that inhabit this breathtaking area.
You’ll enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch in the park before returning to your accommodation to spend the last late afternoon and evening as you see fit.
