The best time to visit Rocky Mountain National Park is between June and September when the weather is pleasantly warm and all of the park’s trails and attractions are open and accessible to visitors. Expect daytime temperatures to hover between the low to mid 20s and evenings stay the low teens. Summer is also the peak travel season so if you’d rather avoid the crowds, choose to visit in early October. Autumn is magical in the park with the aspen leaves changing from green to gold, orange and red. You’ll also be able to see and hear the elk bugling during their mating season. Winter is long and cold thanks to elevations in the park ranging from 7,800 feet to over 14,000 feet above sea level. Expect heavy snow and freezing temperatures between the end of October and the beginning of May.
