Glacier National Park

Boasting an incredible 1.4 million acres of pristine nature, Glacier National Park resides in the northernmost part of Montana and rubs shoulders with Canada’s Waterton Lakes National Park – together forming the breathtakingly beautiful Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. Cradling the Rocky Mountains, the parks’ diverse terrain features everything from large glacial lakes and cedar forests to swathes of rolling prairies, windswept alpine tundra, and 25 giant glaciers. There’s plenty of wildlife too: grizzly bears and moose wander freely, and mountain goats can be seen jumping from craggy rocks.

Glacier National Park is remote – the nearest major city is 550 miles west – but the rewards for those who make the trip are innumerable. With over 700 miles of walking trails, including 110 miles of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, the park is a hiker’s paradise. Journey to the heart of the park, known as Many Glacier or try one of the popular trails like Grinnell Glacier, Hidden Lake or Highline. From Lake McDonald to St. Marys Falls, the scenery will leave you in awe.

A trip to Glacier National Park isn’t complete without driving the Going to the Sun Road. A 50-mile route that weaves through the park’s incredible lands, and crosses the Continental Divide at the 6,646 foot-high Logan Pass, travelling on it from west to east creates the illusion of an endless climb, but it is well worth driving either direction for its singular views.
