Devils Tower

Devil’s Tower FAQs

Find out all you need to know about visiting Devil’s Tower.

When is the best time to visit Devil’s Tower?

Devils Tower is open to visitors year-round, but with temperatures varying greatly throughout the seasons, the best time to go is during the summer when the weather is warm and stable. Daytime temperatures reach up to 30°c and nighttime lows hover around 10°C. Summer is peak tourist season, so if you want fewer crowds or want to do some rock climbing – which is forbidden during the month of June out of respect to the local tribes – the next best time to visit Devils Tower would be between the months of April to May and September to October. Then daytime temperatures range from 15-24°C, perfect for those who prefer milder weather. That said, outside of the months of June to August, you’ll have to be prepared for any weather as high winds and the occasional hailstorm are not uncommon. Come winter, snowfall is frequent and light, but blizzards and white out conditions can occur. Daytime temperatures stay around freezing so this time of the year is best avoided unless winter sports are of interest.
