When is the best time to visit Craters of the Moon?

The best time to go to Craters of the Moon National Monument is between April to early June and October when the weather will be mild and daytime temperatures will range from 10-23°C. If you prefer warmer weather, the summer can be an equally nice time to go with temperatures ranging from 21-30°C. Winters get quite cold and the months of December to February are not recommended as temperatures will hover just above or below freezing.

What places combine well with Craters of the Moon?

Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve is well located for visiting three other national parks: Sawtooth Mountain Area, Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Drive north for 1.5 hours to reach Sawtooth’s alpine wonders or drive east for about 3 hours to reach the world-famous Yellowstone National Park or the majestic mountains of the Grand Tetons.
