When is the best time to visit Badlands National Park?

The weather in Badlands National Park is highly changeable year round and sudden and dramatic weather changes are not uncommon. The months of April to May and September to October are the best months to visit as the weather is generally mild – daytime temperatures stay around 19-23°C – and climate extremes are less likely to occur. Summers are hot and dry with occasional raging thunderstorms and heavy rain, and the daytime temperatures between June and early September hovering in the 30s. Winters are equally volatile with daytime temperatures between December and March hovering at or below freezing, and blizzards and hail storms a frequent occurrence. The National Parks Service recommends you check the forecast before you go to plan appropriately.

What places combine well with Badlands National Park?

From Badlands National Park drive north to pass through the beautiful Black Hills Forest and the iconic memorial of four of America’s greatest presidents, Mount Rushmore, to reach the beautiful sight that is Spearfish Canyon.
If you are up for a longer road trip, continue west from Spearfish Canyon into Wyoming for astounding natural wonders such as Devils Tower, and Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
