Tadoussac
Tadoussac is one of Canada’s premier whale-watching destinations with some 13 species in the confluence between the St Lawrence River and the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord.
On Quebec’s Côte Nord, Tadoussac is a great destination for whale-watching in Saguenay-St-Lawrence Marine Park. Up to 13 species of whales inhabit the salty waters of the St Lawrence, including enormous blue whales, humpbacks that swim into the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord, and belugas that live here year-round.
There are two observation points in Tadoussac itself – Pointe d’Islet and Pointe Rouge, so you can even watch the whales from shore. The Marine Mammal Interpretation Centre has an interesting exhibition, including a collection of whale skeletons.
Tadoussac is also a haven for bird watching, situated on a migratory path with a bird observatory in the dunes overlooking Moulin à Baude Bay. The town is a good base for exploring the dramatic scenery of Saguenay Fjord National Park, less than half an hour away.
