Itinerary
Days 1-2 Stunning scenery and outdoor activities in Mont Tremblant
Collect your Cruise Canada motorhome from Montreal and drive to stunning Mont Tremblant National Park. Base yourself at the Lac Monroe campground and enjoy fishing, hiking and the unique Via Ferrata du Diable, a path that allows visitors to cross a sheer rock face. Be sure to try Les Méandres du Diable, a canoeing route perfect for beginners. The nearby resort village of Mont-Tremblant is recommended for rafting, horse riding, golf, sailing and rock climbing at the activity centre. Visit the lively town of Saint-Sauveur for its excellent restaurants, shopping and water park.
· 145km to Mont-Tremblant National Park
Day 3 Forests and countryside from Mont Tremblant to Lanaudière
Before leaving Mont-Tremblant, consider a helicopter ride to view Quebec’s vast and pristine forests, best in late September/early October when maple leaves turn brilliant shades of red, orange and gold.
Then take a scenic drive through unspoilt countryside on routes 125 and 347 via Saint-Donat to the Lanaudière region. Spend the afternoon relaxing at lakeside campground La Baie.
· 135km to Mandeville
Days 4-5 Waterfalls, rafting and canyoning in La Mauricie
La Mauricie National Park of Canada is another beautiful spot to spend a few days enjoying Quebec’s wonderful scenery. Take an excursion to Waber Falls for a picnic and swim at one of the park’s most beautiful waterfalls. Check out Centre d’Aventure Mattawin, an adrenaline activity centre that offers rafting and canyoning, as well as lesser-known ‘hydroluging’. Explore the park by Rabaska canoe, which at eight metres long holds 10 people, the traditional mode of transport for the Coureurs des Bois (French Canadian fur traders).
· 190km to Rivière Matawin
Day 6 Exploring the vast coastline of Lac Saint Jean
Today you will head to one of Quebec’s natural wonders, Lac Saint Jean, so large it resembles an inland sea. Explore its warm waters, sandy beaches and stunning coastline, then visit Val-Jalbert, a preserved company town from the 1920’s and the wildlife park at Saint-Félicien. Cycle the Blueberry Cycle Route, a paved road that encircles Lac Saint-Jean.
· 270km to Saint Henri-de-Taillon
Day 7 Dramatic scenery and whale-watching in Saguenay Fjord
The most southerly fjord in North America, the Saguenay Fjord contains some of Canada’s most dramatic scenery. One of the best views of the fjord is from the village of Sainte-Rose-du-Nord. Explore the fjord on a cruise or kayaking trip and look out for some of the whales that call the fjord home. Visit Parc Aventure Cap Jaseux to experience the fjord from a canopy ropes course or Via Ferrata.
· 150km to L’Anse-Saint-Jean
Day 8 Hiking, cycling and fishing in Charlevoix’s high gorges
Travel south today into the Charlevoix region, where the highest rock faces east of the Rockies offer dramatic views. Spend a day in the Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière Malbaie National Park and hike the majestic Acropole des Draveurs trail. Visitors can also fish for speckled trout or cycle the 16km route through the park. Stop at Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs to watch black bears.
· 170km to Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park
Day 9 Foodie delights on Charlevoix’s flavour trail
Discover the heart of Charlevoix on the Route des Saveurs, a food trail highlighting the region’s gastronomic delights. Stop in Baie-Saint-Paul for lunch and visit one of the local art galleries. Then visit Jacques-Cartier National Park, one of Quebec’s most spectacular parks, only 30 minutes from the provincial capital. Paddle through the incredible Vallée de la Jacques-Cartier or visit the Wendake Hurons Village to learn about Quebec’s First Nations people.
· 240km to Jacques-Cartier National Park
Day 10 Historic charms of Quebec City
Complete your trip with a stop in Quebec City. Quebec City is the only remaining walled city north of Mexico with charming, cobbled lanes, cosy bistros, unusual boutiques and historic sites. Stay the night and explore the old town, enjoying a gourmet dinner at one of the city’s top restaurants. Don’t miss Place Royale, the citadel and fortifications.
· 95km to Quebec City
Day 11 Tour ends in Montreal
After breakfast drive 250km to return your motorhome to the Cruise Canada Montreal depot. Alternatively, if time permits, extend your trip in Quebec to visit the wild landscapes of the Gaspésie Peninsula.
