In the heart of Quebec lies the beautiful Mauricie region with its huge forests and thousands of lakes filled with thriving wildlife and great trails for hiking, cycling and canoeing.
A highlight of the region is the 1,500 square kilometres of forests, rivers, lakes and waterfalls in Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve, which extends from Mauricie to neighbouring Lanaudière, which is a haven for fishing and watching wildlife such as moose, black bears and beavers. Neighbouring Mauricie National Park is equally spectacular with vast conifer forests and more than 150 lakes offering a scenic drive between the park’s two entrances.
Lake Sacacomie is one of the largest lakes in the region with over 40km of shoreline ideal for kayaking, boating and relaxing on beaches.
The largest city in Mauricie, Trois Rivières, is North America’s second oldest French speaking city with a historic old town, museums, attractive waterfront and range of restaurants and events.
