A place for exploration as well as peaceful contemplation, you’ll find friendly communities in the small, historic towns that date back to the first American pioneers, each with their own identity. Most of the wineries in the region were established two generations ago by visionaries who thought something more could be done with the neglected fields on land. Now considered a haven both fine wine and food, Willamette Valley is filled with agriculture, and you can visit pretty farms, meet the growers, walk their fields and pick a basket of fresh produce to take home. Wine tasting isn’t all there is to do in Willamette Valley and for those who like to explore, there are plenty of outdoor opportunities. You can cycle between vineyards along the picturesque Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway, or stop and smell the wildflowers, count the birds and spot butterflies as you hike through protected natural wildlife areas. From rugged mountain peaks to breathtaking waterfalls, you can even immerse yourself in the heart of the valley as you paddle a nationally recognised water trail on the Willamette River.
