Itinerary

Day 1 Toronto and the CN Tower

Arrive at Toronto Airport where you will be met and taken by luxury private transfer to your hotel.

Explore the vast waterfront and downtown of multicultural Toronto, Canada’s biggest city. Included in your tour is entrance to the CN Tower and a 450-metre ascent offering panoramic views.

Toronto

Day 2 Toronto culture and cuisine

Continue to explore the city of Toronto. Take an optional bicycle tour of downtown before checking out the city’s diverse cuisine in neighbourhoods such as Chinatown, Koreatown, Greek Town, Portugal Village and Kensington Market.

Other options in the city are the Royal Ontario Museum with the world’s largest fossil collection, or take a cruise on Lake Ontario.

Day 3 Historic Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries

Pick up your hire car this morning and drive around Lake Ontario to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

This charming Victorian town was once the capital of Upper Canada, a delightful step back in time with a well-preserved heritage district, colonial buildings, boutique shops and horse-drawn carriages.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is in one of Canada’s foremost wine regions, surrounded by vineyards. The town is particularly famous for its ice wine, a sweet dessert wine produced from grapes frozen on the vine. A tour and wine-tasting at Château des Charmes winery and vineyard is included in your holiday.

Other highlights include Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum and Fort George, used to defend Canada from the USA during the War of 1812. Don’t miss Queen’s Royal Park, which commands views of the Niagara River and Fort Niagara across the US border.

In the evening, enjoy the food and wine in the town’s restaurants and check out the Shaw Festival Theatre, which stages plays written or inspired by the great George Bernard Shaw.

Day 4 Day trip to spectacular Niagara Falls

Take a day trip to Niagara Falls, only half an hour from Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Take in the spellbinding sight of millions of gallons of water plunging over the sheer cliffs of 170-foot Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side, and American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls on the US side.
Ascend the 175-foot Niagara Skywheel or the observation deck of Skylon Tower for the best views, or take a boat cruise or helicopter tour.
You could opt to stay in the evening for the famous illuminations and fireworks before returning to your hotel at Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Day 5 Beautiful scenery of Muskoka Lakes

Drive north this morning through Toronto to the forested hills and lakes of the Muskoka region.

This is one of Ontario’s most beautiful areas, populated by deer, beavers, moose and blue herons. More than 80 lakes are home to small, charming communities serving sumptuous food and drink – fruit, beer, wine and of course maple syrup.

You are staying in Huntsville, which boasts many craft breweries and wineries, while nearby Bala is known as the cranberry capital of Ontario.

There are great opportunities for hiking, cycling, canoeing and fishing in Muskoka Lakes. Highlights include hiking to the viewpoint from Huckleberry Rock, the three islands of Bala connected by bridges over waterfalls, the protected wilderness of Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve, and the huge mosaic of the Port Carling Wall.

We recommend a day trip to Hailstorm Creek Nature Reserve in the north arm of Opeongo Lake where you can canoe and hike to see moose, beavers, herons and loons.

Days 6-7 Stunning wilds of Killarney Provincial Park

Drive along the north-eastern shore of Lake Huron this morning to reach Killarney Provincial Park where you will spend the next two days.

The dramatic cliffs, rugged hills and crystalline lakes of Killarney offer wonderful opportunities for hiking, kayaking and camping amid beautiful scenery. This unspoilt area has inspired generations of Canadian painters – so much so that they formed a group to successfully petition the government to create the park in the 1960’s to conserve its natural beauty.

Stretching from pink granite cliffs on the northern shore of Lake Huron inland to La Cloche Mountains, the park contains over 50 lakes and countless tributaries offering great kayaking. Hikers can explore the 80km Cloche-Silhouette Trail or scale Silver Peak, the park’s highest point for spectacular views. The park is home to more than 100 species of birds as well as deer, bears and moose.

You are staying in the sheltered harbour of the village of Killarney just outside the park on Georgian Bay.

Day 8 Indigenous culture of Manitoulin Island

Drive through Killarney Provincial Park this morning and across to Manitoulin Island. The largest freshwater island in the world, Manitoulin in the north of Lake Huron attracts visitors for its beaches, hiking, fishing and indigenous heritage.

Recommended hikes include the Cup and Saucer Trail with sweeping views over the island and Bridal Veil Falls on the north coast. You can learn about local indigenous communities by taking a guided walk, sampling traditionally cooked food or attending one of the summer pow-wows.

Days 9-10 Shipwrecks and scenery of Tobermory

Drive to South Baymouth and take the ferry across Lake Huron to Tobermory on the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula.

This charming town is famous as the site of over 20 shipwrecks, most easily viewed through incredibly clear water on a glass-bottomed boat tour, while for the more adventurous the region is also known as the scuba diving capital of the Great Lakes. It’s worth the short trip outside town to admire the views from 19th century Big Tub Lighthouse, built to reduce the regular shipwrecks.

Fathom Five Marine Park just outside Tobermory has beautiful shoreline scenery, notably the unique rock formations that give Flowerpot Island its name. Another area to explore nearby is Bruce Peninsula National Park with great beaches, kayaking and hiking to the Grotto cave.

Tobermory

Day 11 Return to Toronto, tour ends

Drive back to Toronto, drop off your hire car at the airport and take your flight home.
