Take an optional bicycle tour of downtown before checking out the city’s diverse cuisine in neighbourhoods such as Chinatown, Koreatown, Greek Town, Portugal Village and Kensington Market.

Day 2 Niagara Falls day trip

Niagara Falls is only 1.5 hours from Toronto so easily visited on a day trip, included in your tour.
Your excursion takes you by coach to Niagara Falls, including a boat tour and free time at both the Falls and nearby historic town Niagara-on-the-Lake, famous for its wineries.
Take in the spellbinding sight of millions of gallons of water plunging over the sheer cliffs of 170-foot Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side, and American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls on the US side.
Ascend the 175-foot Niagara Skywheel or the observation deck of Skylon Tower for the best views, take a short hike around the area or a spectacular helicopter tour to see the views from above before returning to Toronto.

Days 3-5 VIA Rail The Canadian from Toronto to Jasper

Today, embark on an epic rail journey to Jasper over four days onboard VIA Rail train, The Canadian.

Travel comfortably in your private cabin and enjoy amenities on board including private bathroom, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Leaving Toronto, skirt Lake Ontario to the peaceful, hilly countryside around the Great Lakes and the wild territories of the north. Follow rivers surrounded by verdant plains and thick forests.

Continue west through the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the breadbasket of Canada with its golden wheat fields stretching seemingly endlessly.

Cross the southern part of Manitoba through undulating prairies, picturesque towns and pristine lakes. You may catch a glimpse of a black bear, a wapiti, a bison herd as well as dozens of bird species.

Travel across the south-central part of Saskatchewan, between plains, hills, rivers and lakes. Pass through the city of Saskatoon, nicknamed the Paris of the Prairies for its eight bridges spanning the South Saskatchewan River. Then the spectacular outline of the Rocky Mountains emerges on the horizon as you cross into Alberta.

Day 6 Arrive in Jasper, heart of the Canadian Rockies

Between Alberta capital Edmonton and the town of Jasper, nestled among snowy peaks, travel through some of the most iconic mountain landscapes in Canada.

Arrive at Jasper in the heart of the majestic Canadian Rockies, where you’ll spend three nights in a hotel, exploring the spectacular surroundings.

The town, which began life as a 19th century mining hub along the Athabasca River, is the gateway to Jasper National Park. This is the largest park in the Canadian Rockies with emerald lakes, glacial peaks, waterfalls, canyons and evergreen forest filled with wildlife including elk, moose, big-horned sheep, bears and wolves.

The more adventurous can try ice climbing and rafting, while hiking and mountain biking are more leisurely ways to appreciate the scenery. The park is also a huge Dark Sky preserve, perfect for star-gazing.

Days 7-8 Explore Jasper National Park and Columbia Icefield

Spend the next two days exploring Jasper National Park and the fabulous Rocky Mountains. Included in your itinerary is a nature tour to Maligne Lake and Maligne River, which thunders through a 50-metre gorge in a series of waterfalls. Take a cruise on the lake to beautiful Spirit Island or a guided walk along the shoreline.
A highlight of the region is the Columbia Icefield, the largest ice field of its kind outside the poles, including Athabasca Glacier. The Glacier Sky Walk further north is a glass-floored observation platform 280 metres over the Sunwapta Valley. A recommended excursion is the Columbia Icefield Discovery Tour, including the Ice Adventure & Skywalk.

Another recommended way to take in the scenery while working up an appetite is the Peak Nic food tour for lunch or dinner (3.5 hours), a 3.8km hike followed by a backcountry cookery class to enjoy a meal while admiring the views.

Day 9 Via Rail The Canadian from Jasper to Vancouver

This morning, board VIA Rail train The Canadian again for the journey from Jasper to Vancouver.

Using the original steel railcars from the 1950’s, sit back and relax in the dome car to enjoy a dramatic change in scenery as you travel the Yellowhead route past the grandeur of Mount Robson.

Watch the landscape transition from mountains to desert, grasslands and verdant valleys as you follow the Thompson River into central British Columbia.

Brunch and dinner are included onboard and your private quarters will transform into a bedroom for the overnight journey.

Day 10 Vancouver: Capilano Suspension Bridge and Gastown

Arrive in the fascinating, multicultural city of Vancouver and check into your hotel.

One of the city’s highlights is Capilano Suspension Bridge (included in your tour). Take the shuttle north of the city where the bridge stretches over 130 metres across a canyon, some 70 metres above the river and park of the same name. Take a vertigo-inducing walk across the bridge, see the First Nation totem poles, tackle the Cliffwalk and Treetops Adventure, then hike in the rainforest of the surrounding 27-acre park.

Explore the restaurants and nightlife of Vancouver in the afternoon and evening. Gastown is the city’s oldest district with cobbled streets and the famous Steam Clock. Along with adjacent Chinatown and Japantown districts, you’ll find some of the best cuisine in the city here, especially Can-Asian specialties.

After working up an appetite, another great option is to head for Granville Island Market to browse a huge variety of local produce cooked up by expert chefs.

Alternatively, get out on the water to watch humpback whales and orcas on a half or full-day whale-watching tour in the Strait of Georgia (April to October).
