The largest freshwater island in the world, Manitoulin in the north of Lake Huron attracts visitors for its beaches, hiking, fishing and rich indigenous heritage.
On the south side of the island, Providence Beach is one of the best in the province, while spectacular hikes include the Cup and Saucer Trail and Bridal Veil Falls on the north coast.
In summer, it’s popular to camp on the island in areas such as Manitoulin Eco Park, a Dark Sky Preserve in the forest. You can learn about local indigenous communities by taking a guided walk, sampling the local cuisine or attending one of the summer pow-wows.
