USA Holidays
Whether you’re looking for breathtaking landscapes or thrilling cities, fascinating culture or peaceful contemplation, you’ll find countless opportunities for exploration in the United States of America.
Why visit the USA?
The third-largest country in the world, few places offer a more varied landscape, climate, culture and people than the USA. Each region has something unique to offer and with many states the size of countries, the possibilities for visitors on bespoke USA holidays are endless.
Iconic manmade sites like Mount Rushmore, the White House, the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge compete with natural wonders such as the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Niagara Falls and Yellowstone National Park. Culture abounds, from Native American reservations in the West to music trails in the Deep South and world-class museums on the East Coast. And after a busy day’s exploration, you’re guaranteed to eat and drink well in the USA with a vast array of mouthwatering delicacies, ranging from lobster rolls in New England to Cajun cuisine in Louisiana and California’s famous wines.
Getting between places is easy with extensive highway networks in every state, burgeoning public transport options across the country and short domestic flights that will get you quickly from one city to the next. But if you can drive, America was made for road trips – filled with vast open roads, awe-inspiring scenery, charming towns, curious pitstops and delightful destinations that make the journey worth every mile.
New England is one of the most accessible and familiar regions for many visitors, famous for its spectacular Fall colours and wonderful whale-watching. Explore the historic sites of Boston, relax on Cape Cod beaches, then discover the beautiful landscapes of New Hampshire and Vermont.
On the USA’s Pacific coast, California is famous as a mecca for the American dream, but beyond the glamour of Hollywood and fun of theme parks, you can uncover the beauty of the Golden State – the verdant vineyards of Napa, desert oases like Palm Springs, and the mountains and lakes of the Sierra Nevada.
America’s heartland, the Deep South, is the cradle of modern music as well as the scene of much of the country’s troubled history. Go on the trail of blues in Mississippi, country in Nashville and jazz in New Orleans, and explore Civil War and Civil Rights landmarks in Birmingham and Montgomery.
The wild frontier territory in America’s West and Mid-West contains many of the country’s most stunning landscapes. In the Great West, be mesmerised by the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon and Lake Powell before taking in the bright lights of Las Vegas. In the Rocky Mountain States, see the iconic sculptures of Mount Rushmore, the ethereal Craters of the Moon, and watch bears and buffalo in Yellowstone National Park.
For an experience unlike any other in the USA, head north to explore the wildlife-rich waters of Inside Passage and the glacial interior of Alaska. Watch brown bears fishing for salmon, humpbacks twirling out of the ocean and icebergs crashing from huge tidewater glaciers, then take a flightseeing trip over North America’s highest mountain.

Best time to go - USA
The climate is wide and varied
Few countries, if any, can boast the full range of climates and varying types of terrain the world has to offer, but in the USA, there’s a climate and place for literally every visitor. From the glaciers of Alaska and the deserts of Arizona to the rolling prairies of the Midwest, the majestic Rocky Mountains and the pristine, sun-soaked beaches of California, Florida and Hawaii, the land across the United States is nothing short of spectacular.
Summer is the best time to visit the nation’s many national parks as well as the more northern regions of the United States – with May and June being especially pleasant with colourful flora, active fauna and temperatures in the low 20s. The northern part of the USA has a consistent climate from coast to coast with defined seasons dictating every few months of the year.
Winter can be pleasant or freezing cold depending on where you choose to visit, and heavy snowfall and frozen lakes are common across the northern regions of the country. Most southern states and the Hawaiian Islands offer winter warmth and respite from the cold winters in the UK, while certain parts like Lake Tahoe, Colorado and Wyoming offer excellent ski resorts for those who don’t mind a few feet of snow.
The southern regions of the USA have almost indistinguishable seasons, albeit with distinct regional differences. The climate is generally more arid towards the west and more humid towards the east. Winter tends to be mild; spring and autumn are warm, and summer is always hot.
Throughout the USA, spring and autumn are mild and pleasant, and are great periods to visit as one can avoid any extremes in temperature. These seasons are also full of festivals and events, and nature comes to life with many places blossoming beautifully in spring and changing into glorious displays of colour come autumn.
