Newfoundland
Places visited
Explore the windswept majesty of Newfoundland on this eight-day fly-drive. Discover historic St John, watch puffins and whales in the Atlantic, then stay at one of the world’s most unique hotels on remote Fogo Island.
Begin your tour in St John’s and explore the historic sites of Newfoundland’s elegant capital. Highlights include Signal Hill where the first transatlantic radio signal was received, Cabot Tower which commemorates explorer John Cabot’s voyage to Newfoundland in 1497, and Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America with the oldest standing lighthouse. Take an unforgettable boat trip to watch humpback whales and North America’s largest Atlantic puffin colony, then sample St John’s many pubs and seafood restaurants.
Heading north, stop off at the iconic red-and-white lighthouse of Bonavista where explorer John Cabot first sighted land, before reaching Gander to learn about the role the town played in helping those affected by 9/11.
Now for the highlight of your trip – Fogo Island Inn. This remote, luxury property perched partially on stilts on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean is one of the world’s most unique, sought-after hotels. Enjoy its impeccable rooms and rooftop terrace offering panoramic views in the most dramatic of locations.
Spend three days in the isolated splendour of Fogo Island, watch icebergs float by in summer, take hikes and boat trips to watch local wildlife, then spend evenings enjoying gourmet food and some star-gazing.

Our expert's opinion
“Fogo Island Inn is an incredible place to stay – Newfoundland hospitality at its finest in such an amazing location. The inn really is a work of art! We loved the views from the hot tub and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.”
