Stowe
The charming town of Stowe has one of the most stunning locations in Vermont’s Green Mountains, offering excellent hiking and cycling in summer and popular ski slopes in winter.
At the foot of Vermont’s highest peak Mount Mansfield, Stowe is a beautiful town and resort. In winter, Stowe Mountain Resort has busy skiing and snowboarding trails, while in summer hiking, ziplining and the Gondola Skyride are popular, and in autumn the colours of the surrounding hills are at their most spectacular.
There are more than 45 hiking and cycling trails in the area. Stowe Recreation Path is one of the best ways to take in the landscape, a 5.5-mile trail along Little River to Top Notch Resort. More serious hikers can tackle parts of the historic Long Trail, which follows the Green Mountains 272 miles from the Massachusetts border through Vermont to Canada.
There are many beautiful Vermont towns close to Stowe. State capital Montpelier is only half an hour away, famous for its gold-domed State House. Burlington, the biggest city in Vermont, is a 40-minute drive with great shopping and events in Church Street Marketplace. Burlington is on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, best appreciated from the boardwalk of Waterfront Park or cycling along the Burlington Bike Path.
