Connecticut may not be as famous as Rhode Island or Cape Cod but its shoreline, historic towns and rolling hills have much to offer. One of the highlights of Connecticut is the village of Mystic. Explore the region's shipbuilding history in Mystic Seaport Museum with exhibitions, artifacts and historic ships including the Charles W. Morgan, dating from 1841. Olde Mistick Village is a recreated 18th century New England village with a variety of antique shops, art galleries, restaurants, gardens and busy events schedule in summer.
Along the coast, New Haven is home to one of the USA’s most famous universities Yale, and campus tours are recommended. The Yale University Art Gallery is a highlight with some 250,000 objects from ancient times to the present day.
The capital of Connecticut, Hartford is where one of America’s greatest authors Mark Twain lived and wrote many of his famous novels. The stylish three-storey Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford houses a fascinating exhibition on the author’s life and eccentricities.
Before leaving, escape from Connecticut’s towns and cities to the northwest corner of the state, Litchfield Hills. This lush region of lakes, rivers and maple forests leads into the Berkshires in Massachusetts, and is an idyllic place.
