Places visited
Explore four iconic cities by rail on this 11-day tour of the USA’s east coast. Discover world-famous buildings, historic sites, new high-tech attractions and fabulous food in Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC, shuttling between destinations by train and staying in city centre hotels.
Begin in beautiful Boston, one of America’s most historic cities with an iconic harbour. Follow the famous Freedom Trail of Revolutionary War sites, then sample delicious clam chowder and lobster rolls. Go whale-watching to see humpbacks breaching out of the Atlantic. Alternatively, explore historic Plymouth or the beaches of Cape Cod on a day trip.
Take the train to New York City, a bold, grandiose, multi-cultural metropolis that never sleeps. Stay on Times Square and enjoy classic attractions Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and Broadway, as well as newer sites such as One World Trade Center and breathtaking, gravity-defying attractions Summit One Vanderbilt and Hudson Yards.
Then visit Philadelphia, the birthplace of the United States. Explore Independence National Historic Park where the Declaration of Independence was signed, see the iconic Liberty Bell, stand on the Rocky steps, and feast on the city’s famous food.
The culmination of your tour is the nation’s capital Washington DC. See world-famous edifices such as White House, Lincoln Memorial and the towering obelisk of the Washington Monument, both during the day and illuminated at night, then visit the world-renowned Smithsonian Museums and Galleries.
