New England
Overview & Highlights
Explore Boston’s historic Freedom Trail, go whale-watching in the Atlantic and discover spectacular mountain, forest and coastal scenery before feasting on seafood on this two-week fly drive. The birthplace of the USA, New England is steeped in history while its landscapes are stunningly beautiful, especially in Fall.
Begin in Boston, one of America’s most historic cities with an iconic harbour. Follow the famous Freedom Trail of Revolutionary War sites, then sample delicious clam chowder and lobster rolls. Go whale-watching to see humpbacks breaching out of the Atlantic, then explore the sites of historic Plymouth where the Mayflower pilgrims landed in 1620 or the beaches and charming towns of idyllic island Martha’s Vineyard.
North of Boston, visit Salem, site of the infamous witch trials, en route to Maine. Enjoy beautiful Kennebunkport and nearby Portland, known as “the restaurant city” for its wonderful array of gourmet cuisine.
Further north, experience spectacular landscapes in Acadia National Park by boat, car and on foot and don’t miss Cadillac Mountain, the perfect place to view the first sunrise in the USA.
Head inland to the forested peaks and waterfalls of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Ascend the steep Cog Railway and enjoy hikes and drives to take in the breathtaking views. Then visit Vermont’s Green Mountains, home to quintessential New England towns Woodstock and Stowe, surrounded by hiking and cycling trails. New Hampshire and Vermont are beautiful at any time of year but particularly so in autumn when the countryside turns orange and red in one of nature’s most amazing spectacles.
Further south, The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts have sweeping scenery of hills, forests and lakes surrounding towns bursting with culture. Crossing into Connecticut, visit the house where Huckleberry Finn was written before taking a step back in time to discover the maritime history of Mystic.
Finish your tour in “Ocean State” Rhode Island, famous for its beaches, sailing community and seafood. Visit some of the opulent Gilded Age mansions along the breathtaking Ocean Drive.

Our expert's opinion
“New England is one of those destinations that you just fall in love with, so much history, stunning landscapes, amazing architecture, and some of the best seafood you will ever eat! Often known as the adventure playground of the East, there is so much to do outdoors for all ages. Boston is surrounded by water and the whale-watching from Boston May to October is a must. You can even get a ferry from Boston to Provincetown in Cape Cod for the day if you fancy a beach day!”
