how to make a sazerac cocktail
While similar to an Old Fashioned Cocktail, the use of rye whiskey over bourbon, is what sets the Sazerac apart. In 2008, the cocktail was crowned the official cocktail of New Orleans, having been consumed in some form as far back as 1838.
Prep: 10 minutes
Recipe serves: 4
INGREDIENTS
- 2 tsp absinthe
- 50ml sugar syrup
- 1 tsp Peychaud’s bitters
- ½ tsp bitters
- 200ml rye whiskey
- Ice
- Garnish: 4 orange peel twists
INSTRUCTIONS
- Rinse four chilled rocks glasses with absinthe, discarding any excess, and set aside
- In a mixing glass, mix the sugar and Peychaud’s bitters
- Add the rye whiskey, fill the mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled
- Strain into the prepared glasses
- Twist the orange peel over each drink to express the peel’s oils, then garnish with the peel
