In splendid isolation between Phoenix and Sedona, all-inclusive resort Castle Hot Springs has been welcoming venerable guests since 1896. Its décor is inspired by the American Southwest’s desert landscape with tailored textiles, custom ironwork and beautiful masonry.
Accommodation is in bungalows or cottages with fireplaces and balconies or patios. Many have outdoor soaking tubs with water drawn directly from the hot springs and some have panoramic platform decks for stargazing. The pick of the accommodation is the three-bedroom Historic Cottage, which once lodged iconic families such as the Roosevelts, Rockefellers, and the Vanderbilts.
The undoubted highlight of the resort is a soak in the mineral-rich natural hot springs carved from the rocks and flowing into the canyon, equally alluring in the daytime or for star-gazing at night.
A wide range of adventures in the stunning surroundings await – climb Arizona’s only Via Ferrata Adventure Course, and go hiking, cycling or horse-riding through desert foothills and canyons filled with Saguaro cacti. Enjoy innovative farm-to-table cuisine at the restaurant Harvest, and take a cookery class or a farm tour.
