Few opportunities exist to immerse oneself in Native American culture, which is why we’ve created this once in a lifetime journey through the tribal lands of some of America’s largest and oldest tribes. You’ll hear their stories, learn about their ancestral past, witness their customs, discover their artisanship and experience firsthand the spectacular landscapes they call home on this incredible tour across America’s Southwest.
You’ll begin and end your trip in Phoenix, Arizona’s thriving desert metropolis, and home to some of the region’s most fascinating museums documenting Native art and life. You’ll then make the journey to the Zuni Reservation, driving along the famed Apache Trail and stopping in the town of Globe to see prehistoric pueblos along the way. The next day you’ll be led by a local guide around the Zuni Reservation, stopping at the tribe’s historical museum, the remnants of the ancient town of Hawikku, where Europeans first made contact in the Southwest, and the Zuni Artist Workshops to see how contemporary artisans hone their crafts.
Next, you’ll continue to Gallup, one of the USA’s last surviving Native American trade posts, before ultimately arriving in Canyon de Chelly one of the longest continuously inhabited landscapes in North America. You’ll detour to Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Nation, on your way there, and spend the following day touring the entire canyon with a Native guide.
You’ll then drive up to Bluff in Utah. Tucked between sandstone cliffs and the San Juan River, the town is rich in human history and natural beauty, and you’ll discover both by land and by water. The iconic Monument Valley, immortalised in Western films will follow the next day, and you’ll be guided around this breathtaking expanse by a Navajo guide instead of just driving through. Afterwards, you’ll travel to Lake Powell right next to the border town of Page in Arizona. There lies the otherworldly Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, and the incredible Red Heritage Performance Theatre, where you’ll sit down for a night of cultural entertainment.
Next up is a two night stay on the Grand Canyon South Rim. From spectacular hiking trails to unparalleled views – it’s a place where you’ll want to take your time. And once you have, you’ll travel to the beautiful historic town of Prescott for the last leg of your journey. Once a quintessential Wild West town, Prescott offers fascinating insight into the past and present of the region, and is a wonderful place to end what will hopefully be a memorable journey before you fly home.

Our expert's opinion
“While a trip to the Southwest is magical in its own, experiencing it with an emphasis on the Native American culture “digs deeper”. America is known as the “New World”, but the indigenous people have lived here for many centuries, with the oldest continuously occupied settlement (Hopi) in the United States going back to 1150! Don’t believe America has no history! This trip will give you an inside into the Native way of life – in addition to exposing you to the most beautiful landscapes.”
Having spent many years in North and South America, Sarah has amassed more travel memories than most, but for her those that really stand out tie into her love of immense and remote landscapes.
