Itinerary

Days 1-2 Las Vegas, Nevada to Zion National Park

*Choose to spend the first night after your flight at a hotel in Las Vegas at your leisure or pick up your motorhome on arrival and start your journey.

Collect your motorhome from Cruise America’s Las Vegas depot and head to one of the USA’s most beautiful places, Zion National Park. Known for its stunning scenery, walk among its towering cliffs, hike through the otherworldly site known as The Narrows and follow the Virgin River through the main canyon to see the lush greenery contrast with the colourful cream, pink, and orange cliffs. If you’re adventurous, hike the steep and rewarding Angel’s Landing.

You’ll want to spend more than a day here, and your campground, Zion River Resort, is ideally located for doing so. Take time to also stop at Springdale, a charming little town widely considered to be the gateway to Zion National Park.

• 236km from Las Vegas to Zion River Resort

Days 3-4 Grand Canyon South Rim

Drive to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The easiest part to reach, it offers countless viewpoints, hiking trails and the Yavapai Observation Station. Stand on the Rim to watch one of the world’s most breathtaking sunrises or sunsets. No photograph will do it justice – you have to experience in person. Tours can be taken by foot, mountain bike, 4×4, mule and helicopter, so you have plenty of options to choose from during your 2-day stay.

We recommend the Mather Campground for its peaceful natural surroundings during your stay. It’s also within easy walking distance of the Grand Canyon Village and the shuttle bus that takes you everywhere you might want to go in the canyon.

• 421km to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

Days 5-6 Lake Powell

Head east today through more of Grand Canyon National Park, passing through the Kaibab National Forest, Cameron and Page before finally arriving in the spectacular Lake Powell. One of the premier boating destinations in the world, this vast placid blue lake surrounded by beautiful, multicoloured sandstone walls, offers sunshine, warm waters, and countless water-based activities. Cruise or kayak down the canyon bends, paddleboard from one shore to another, or enjoy the pool and facilities at the adjacent Lake Powell Resort.

Stay at the Wahweap Campground, right on the lake – you’ll get to experience the desert landscape from a whole new perspective.

• 233km to Lake Powell

Day 7 Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley

This morning we recommend heading into the neighbouring town of Page to take a tour of the otherworldly Antelope Canyon. A place like nowhere else on earth, Antelope Canyon is one of the world’s most beautiful slot canyons and is a must-see on any trip to America’s Southwest.

After, continue your drive to Monument Valley, the iconic landscape for many Western films, this place has to be seen in person. Your overnight will be at Goulding’s RV Park, so check in and book the Deluxe Tour from Goulding’s for that evening. This special tour cover all the famous monoliths of Monument Valley, as well as some of the restricted back country roads – and you’ll get to see the breathtaking landscape at sunset.

• 200km to Monument Valley

Day 8 Bluff, including the San Juan River and Valley of the Gods

Start early today to make your way to the town of Bluff in time to join one of the best river trips available in the West with Wild River Expeditions. Part land-based, part river-based, you’ll explore some of Utah’s indigenous past at the Butler Wash petroglyph panel and the River House Cliff Dwelling, enjoy a fresh picnic lunch under the cottonwood-lined river banks, and enter a limestone chasm come afternoon to see bighorn sheep and 300 million year-old fossils. Covering 26 miles along the San Juan River, this is great day trip for those with limited time and/or families.

Your overnight will be at the Cadillac Ranch RV Park, and if you still have time, we highly recommend still visiting the nearby Valley of the Gods.

• 75km to Bluff

Day 9 Four Corners Monument and Mesa Verde National Park

Today you’ll be heading for Mesa Verde National Park via the Four Corners Monument – an area of the USA that perfectly aligns the corners of four states: the northwest is Utah, the northeast is Colorado, the southeast is New Mexico and the southwest is Arizona.

Mesa Verde National Park offers a fascinating look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made this area their home for over 700 years. The park protects nearly 5,000 known archaeological sites, many of which are some of the best preserved in the whole of the United States.

You’ll be staying overnight at the Mesa Verde RV Resort. Make sure to book a guided ranger-led tour of the park’s famous cliff dwellings, Cliff Palace and Balcony House, before you arrive.

• 139km to Mesa Verde National Park

Days 10-11 Moab and Canyonlands National Park

Head today for Moab, an oasis in Utah’s adventure epicenture and one of the most sought-after destinations in the West. Enroute, visit Hole N” The Rock, a unique historic 5,000 square foot home carved out of a huge rock in Canyonlands Country.

Moab is home to three scenic byways and situated on the high desert between the breathtaking red rock landscapes of Canyonlands National Parks and the Colorado River, making it the perfect base for two days of exploring Utah’s National Parks region. The Moab Adventure Centre is the place to go to reserve all outdoor activities in the area, like a jetboat tour on the Colorado River or a 4×4 offroad tour through Canyonlands. You’ll have multiple campgrounds to choose from for your stay, but we’d recommend The Needles or Island in the Sky Campgrounds in Moab, or the campground situated right in Canyonlands National Park.

• 201km to Moab

Day 12 Arches National Park and Capitol Reef National Park

Today drive to Arches National Park and take your time to explore. Arches National Park has the largest proliferation of arches in the world over a 73,234-acre wonderland that’s been sculpted by wind and time. A hike to see the sunrise or sunset through Landscape Arch is a must, as is a visit to the world-famous Delicate Arch.

Afterwards, drive through the sweeping vistas and towering red rock landscapes of Capitol Reef National Park before stopping overnight at the Fruita Campground, beautifully surrounded by historic orchards.

• 236km to Capitol Reef National Park

Day 13 Escalante National Monument and Bryce Canyon National Park

Travel today along one of Utah’s most special roads, Scenic Byway 12 towards Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument. Get out and discover its majestic beauty – there are hiking trails for all levels and scenic overlooks. Boulder Mountain lies just beyond with its dense forests and meadowlands, offering insight into what the Great West has looked like since before history.

Your overnight will be at Bryce Canyon Campgrounds just a short distance away, but we recommend already visiting Bryce Canyon National Park in the afternoon, so you get more time there.

• 193km to Bryce Canyon National Park

Day 14 Bryce Canyon National Park and Mesquite

Chances are you’ll want more time this morning to continue exploring Bryce Canyon National Park – so take it. Recognised the world over for its miles upon miles of white and orange limestone spires, the rock formations and landscapes you see here will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Hike along one of the park’s many trails or take a scenic drive stopping off at viewpoints like the magnificent Inspiration Point.

On your way to Mesquite in the afternoon, pass by the St. George area with its historical gold mine full of pioneer homes, fascinating ghost towns and prehistoric dinosaur footprints. Your overnight will be at the Desert Skies Resorts in Mesquite – a convenient spot for your return to Las Vegas the following morning.
