California / Great West

Overview & Highlights

California might be famous for its year-round sunny weather, but few truly know its remarkable natural beauty. Home to the world’s largest trees, the tallest waterfalls, the most extreme temperatures and some of the most spectacular scenery, California’s national parks are well worth visiting and on this trip you’ll get to immerse yourself in its awe-inspiring natural wonders.

You’ll be starting in Las Vegas – a key location for accessing everything from Death Valley to the Grand Canyon – before starting a road trip through some of California’s most famous national parks and returning home from San Francisco.

Arrive amongst the neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip. This city might be renowned for its glitz and kitsch, but it is also a one of the most well-placed cities for accessing the incredible nature in this part of the United States. Start the trip with a privately guided tour to the Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire – you may even be able to fit in more than one before heading to the world-renowned Death Valley. You’ll spend two days exploring this extreme place by both horse and Jeep.

You’ll then drive down to another desert, but this time it’s an oasis: Palm Springs. A relaxed overnight stay in this mid-century modern icon will refresh you before continuing on your journey to the famed Joshua Tree National Park. You’ll be staying in the scenic Mojave desert just moments from the park’s entrance in a luxury Airstream, and you’ll find that hikes, stargazing and personal enrichment await.

Next, you’ll spend a day road tripping up to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks – breaking the drive up with an overnight stay in central California’s city of industry, Bakersfield. When you finally arrive in the south end of the Sierra Nevada, you’ll find yourself in the home of the world’s largest and oldest tree, and the incredible preserve that protects the beauty of California’s unique sequoia trees. Exciting hiking trails and stunning scenic drives will fill your time before you continue two days later to the breathtaking beauty of the World Heritage Site of Yosemite National Park.

End your stay in one of the world’s most famous cities, San Francisco. You’ll get to see it from the Golden Gate Bridge and the heart of the city’s centre before flying back home.
