Flagstaff FAQs

Find out all you need to know about visiting Flagstaff.

When is the best time to visit Flagstaff?

Located in the high country mountains of northern Arizona, Flagstaff is one of the few cities in Arizona to have four distinct seasons. Flagstaff has plenty to offer year-round but in order to make the most of its proximity to many of the Southwest’s most iconic sites, the best time to visit Flagstaff is between May and October. Every late spring, Flagstaff’s incredible ponderosa pine forest comes into full bloom with incredible wildflower displays and the daytime temperatures hover around 20°C. Summer offers azure blue skies and crisp mountain air with daytime temperatures averaging in the high 20s. The beauty of the area continues into autumn with the surrounding foliage offering hues of yellows, reds and purples. The daytime temperatures in September and October stay around 20°C. Come winter the temperatures drop and Flagstaff becomes Arizona’s official Winter Wonderland with an average of over 200cm of snowfall. Expect sunny days with temperatures around or below freezing.
