Overview & Highlights
Minnesota may be less known by foreign tourists but contains a wealth of natural attractions. Known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes and the source of the Mississippi River, the coastline of Lake Superior, state parks and forests on this 1,700-km tour are home to eagles, wolves and black bears.
Begin your tour in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St Paul, explore the region's countless lakes before some retail therapy at the Mall of America.
In nearby Ely, see bears and wolves at the local wildlife centres, then go fishing and canoeing in Superior National Forest.
Take the North Shore Scenic Drive along Lake Superior and then the Great River Road to Wabasha, where you can visit the National Eagle Center before returning to Minneapolis.

Our expert's opinion
“On the border with Canada, Minnesota has much in common with the neighbours – from the way people talk to the focus on nature. This region is all about lakes, forests and the wildlife inhabiting them. My favourite part of the tour is watching bald eagles in Wabasha and the howling wolves in Ely.”
Joshua has been travelling to the USA since childhood, visiting his father and four siblings on the west coast. He is fortunate to have travelled to 42 of the 50 US states, and hopes to complete the set by his next big birthday.
