When is the best time to visit Mackinac Island?

The best time to visit Mackinac Island is April to October when the weather is warmest with the most sunshine. Spring (April-May) arrives quite late and has average temperatures varying widely 2-16°C. Summer (June-August) is the warmest time, bringing average temperatures ranging 16-24°C, although this is also the busiest time. The weather in autumn (September-October) is comfortable but sometimes rainy with temperatures ranging 8-18°C, while the autumn colours make this an attractive time to visit, quieter than summer. Winter (November-March) can be very cold, with temperatures ranging 5°C to -10°C, often cold winds and snow most common December-February.

Mackinac Island uses Central Standard Time (GMT – 6), observing Central Daylight Time (GMT – 5) March to November.

What places combine well with Mackinac Island?

Destinations in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan combine well with Mackinac Island. Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes are 2-3 hours south-west, Detroit is about four hours drive south-east, and the Door Peninsula is about five hours south-west.
