Itinerary

Day 1 From Miami to Florida Keys

Collect your motorhome from the Cruise America depot in Miami and drive to Grassy Key RV Park. Book in advance to try to secure a waterfront site, and don’t miss the Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key.

Day 2 Over Florida Keys to Key West

Cross the incredible Seven Mile Bridge and several more on the way across Marathon and Big Pine Key on the way to Key West. Boyd’s Key West Campground is just five miles from the Keys’ southernmost tip and an idyllic spot. Visit Hemmingway’s favourite Captain Tony’s and Smoky Joe’s pubs and don’t miss seeing the sun go down from Mallory Pier.

Day 3 Reefs and mangroves of Pennekamp National Park

There’s only the one road in and out so now head back north to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Established in 1963, this was the first undersea park created in the USA. The park, combined with the adjacent Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, encompasses 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove swamps.

Day 4 Wilds of Everglades National Park

Leave the Florida Keys and drive into Everglades National Park. The popular Flamingo Campground should be prebooked online using the National Park Service website. Explore the wild terrain of Everglades National park: in your vehicle, on foot or on the water.

Day 5 Birdwatching on Sanibel Island

Today head up Florida’s west coast to Sanibel Island. Periwinkle Park and Campground is a birdwatcher’s delight. Species of exotic and native birds include toucans, macaws, as well as lemurs. Visit the beaches of Captiva Island and, then head for The Mucky Duck pub.

· 370km to Sanibel via Route 41 through the Everglades and the Big Cypress National Reserve

Day 6 Fishing and beaches of Fort DeSoto Park

Head back to the mainland and take the Interstates 75/275 to Fort DeSoto Country Park, made up of five interconnected islands. You can fish from two free piers and rent boats and bikes. DeSoto has won the America’s Best Beach award so it’s a great place to relax.

Day 7 Disney World

Today head for Walt Disney World and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Please book ahead to see your choices of Disney Theme Parks.
Alternatively, if you want to cut out Orlando because you did it before, spend time meandering and exploring central Florida’s east or west coast.

Day 8 Kennedy Space Centre and Juno Beach

Head east to the Atlantic, world-famous Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Centre, NASA’s launch headquarters. Here you can tour launch areas, see the giant rockets, train in spaceflight simulators and see the moon via stunning iMax presentations.
Visit the Loggerhead Marinelife Center during sea turtle nesting season (May-August). Then visit The Palm Beaches, Boca Raton and Juno Beach.

Day 9 Palm Beach

In the morning, drive south to Palm Beach, dubbed ‘Rodeo Drive of the East’. Stroll along the Worth Avenue shopping district and see some mansions. Stay at North Coast, a favourite among motorhomers for 50 years. The sands of Dania Beach are just minutes away.
Enjoy a last night of fun in Fort Lauderdale.

Day 10 Return to Miami and tour ends

Drive 65km to Cruise America Miami to drop off your motorhome. Consider extending your stay with a few days in Miami or Miami Beach, but book accommodation ahead.
