Tour Duff Green Mansion
Experience the American Civil War at the Duff Green Mansion.
Built in 1856, shortly before the American Civil War, Duff Green Mansion is one of the most well-preserved antebellum mansions in Vicksburg. Learn what daily life was like for Duff and Mary Lake Green as they married, built their home, designated their house as a “hospital” to avoid its destruction by Union soldiers, and had their family in a civil war cave. From the ballroom where Jefferson Davis danced, to the fireplace where Ulysses S. Grant sat to the former kitchen turned operating room – you might even see a Confederate soldier ghost when you visit.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the mansion has received several awards for the outstanding restoration as set forth by the Department of the Interior.
