Tupelo

Tupelo is proud of its status as Elvis Presley's home town. The King of Rock’n’Roll was born here and lived in the city until he was 13. Tupelo's historic downtown is graced by a statue of Elvis in action, commemorating his 1956 homecoming concert.

Elvis’s modest two-room childhood home is the centrepiece of the city's 15-acre Elvis Presley Park, including a museum, statue and church. The city also has an impressive collection of Elvis murals, and an Elvis Guitar Trail with more than 25 six-foot-high hand-painted guitars.

Tupelo is roughly the mid-point of Natchez Trace Parkway, a legendary 8,000-year-old Native American trail which runs 444 miles from Natchez to Nashville. This is one of the USA's most visited national parks and Tupelo is an obligatory stop along the route.

The city is filled with historic sites, and has both Civil Rights and trails, including the Old Town Creek Battle Site, scene of a key battle in 1864. The region’s Native American history is showcased in a new Chickasaw Heritage Center with a comprehensive exhibition from the Chickasaw Nation's perspective.

Tupelo is also renowned for its food with over 200 restaurants serving up a range of Cajun and Southern specialities. Don’t miss Tupelo’s famous cocktails, including signature slushies made with mead. The city is proud of its musical heritage and has 16 music venues with live concerts throughout the week.
