With an atmosphere as steeped in history as it is in romance, a meal at Restaurant 1818 is well worth a trip to the stunning antebellum mansion, the Monmouth Historic Inn. Named for the year the mansion was built, the restaurant specialises in preparing traditional Southern food to perfection, and features classic dishes likes fried green tomatoes with jumbo lump crab, chilled Gulf shrimp cocktail, and bourbon pecan pie. Diners can dine under the light of handmade crystal chandeliers in the original mens’ and ladies’ parlours of the Main House or take to the patio outside to enjoy a three course meal al fresco.

Restaurant 1818 is one of the finest dining experiences Natchez has to offer, and with an extensive wine list and one of the best-made mint juleps in the city, cocktail hour is equally worth a visit. Sit in the Quitman Lounge and Study – named after the former Mississippi governor and statesman John Quitman – and reflect on the past. This establishment elevates dinner and drinks to an occasion all its own.
