Visit Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church
Visit the church where Martin Luther King Jr. preached during the Civil Right Movement.
Designated a National Historic Landmark due to its importance in the Civil Rights Movement and American history, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church was where Martin Luther King Jr. (or MLK, as he is often referred to) preached during the tumultuous early years of the American Civil Rights Movement. It was the place where MLK organised the 1955-1956 Montgomery Bus Boycott after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat, and ultimately a major meeting point for all involved.
On your tour of this historic church, you’ll learn all about these facts and more, including why Martin Luther King Jr. was so pivotal in moving this movement to the front of the American conscience.
