The best time to visit Louisville is in the spring, with the Kentucky Derby happening the first weekend of May and America’s largest firework show, Thunder Over Louisville taking place a week or two before. Louisville has a humid subtropical climate typical of the Upper South. Summers are hot and humid with temperatures up to the low 30s. Spring and autumn are mild with temperatures ranging from the low teens to the high 20s. Winters are moderately cold with temperatures hovering just above freezing.
