Visit Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge
See the indigenous species of the Gulf Coast in their undisturbed natural habitat.
Established in 1980 to protect threatened and endangered local species and migratory songbird habitats, Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge encompasses some of Alabama’s last remaining undisturbed coastal habitats and can easily be accessed by a short drive or half hour walk from your accommodation in the area. Encompassing nearly 7,000 acres of land, ranging from rapidly replenishing beach dunes to rolling pine-oak woodlands, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and explore – from a quiet stroll among the pristine dunes and world-class birding opportunities to hiking along miles of idyllic trails. The refuge is free to the public and a wonderful experience for lovers of both flora and fauna.
