A must for all history and military buffs, the USS Alabama was the final member of the South Dakota class of fast battleships built for the United States Navy in the 1940s. She was originally deployed to strengthen the British Home Fleet, tasked with protecting convoys to the Soviet Union in the North Atlantic, before being transferred to the South Pacific for operations against Japan in 1943. Housing 2,500 courageous soldiers, the USS Alabama engaged in a range of roles, from serving as an escort to protect aircraft carriers from surface and air attacks to bombarding Japanese positions in support of amphibious assaults and took part in the Mariana and Palau Islands campaign, the Philippines campaign and the Battle of Okinawa.
