Clarksdale

Located at the intersection of Highways 61 and 49, Clarksdale is considered the ‘Crossroads of the Blues’ where, according to popular fiction and urban legend, Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his supernatural musical ability. Today, it is the centre for all things Blues, widely acknowledged as one of the founding locations for this uniquely American style of music. Home to some of the genres most influential artists like Sam Cooke, John Lee Hooker, and Muddy Waters, Clarksdale is the only city where you can hear a live Blues performance every night of the year – just visit one of its many clubs and juke joints, like the famed Ground Zero Blues Club and Red’s Juke Joint.

For those interested in learning about Clarksdale’s musical legacy, you’ll find there’s plenty to see too. Clarksdale is home to the renowned Delta Blues Museum, dedicated to the history and preservation of the Blues, as well as the Mississippi Blues Trail whose markers you can follow through the city.

Outside of music history and Blues culture, Clarksdale has a lovely downtown arts and culture district filled with a delightful mix of old and new restaurants, great boutique shopping and charming lodging for when you pass through.
