When is the best time to visit Great Smoky Mountains?

Spectacular mountain scenery awaits no matter what time of year you choose to visit the Great Smoky Mountains. The elevations in the Smokies range from approximately 267 meters to 2,025 meters and the topography can drastically affect the local weather. For the most consistent weather up and down the mountains, travel in the summer. June to August is warm and humid with daytime temperatures up to 30°C and evenings in the high teens. Late spring and autumn are also good times to visit as the temperatures will be around the mid-20s in the lower elevations and above freezing in the higher elevations. The foliage in autumn is second to none, and with Colourblind Viewers available, everyone can get the most out of their visit. Winter months are chilly with daytime highs in the high teens and below freezing during the nights. Snow is a common occurrence the higher up you travel and can fall as much as up to two feet during a storm.
