Chimney Rock FAQs

Find out all you need to know about visiting Chimney Rock.

When is the best time to visit Chimney Rock?

While Chimney Rock State Park can be visited year round, the best time to visit is during the summer and autumn seasons when the weather and the nature are at their peak. June to August is the most popular time to visit with hot, sunny weather and daytime temperatures up to 32°C. For those concerned about the warmth, know that the majority of the hiking trails are under tree cover, offering cool shade to hikers on the many picturesque routes. The beach at Lake Lure also offers an excellent opportunity to cool off from the summer heat. End September to early November is equally popular as foliage season gets into full swing. Daytime temperatures will remain pleasant between 18°C and 25°C, and the verdant greens of summer will transform into fiery shades of red, orange and gold. Winter and spring aren’t as vibrant as summer and autumn, but visitors can still enjoy the expansive vistas, and milder weather come late April.
